Blueberries, Blackberries, Marionberries, Strawberries, Huckleberries, Gooseberries, Lingonberries, Razzleberries, Snazzleberries…the list goes on. If it has berry in the name, it goes in this category

Best Fruit Pie
Something like apple, fig, citrus, or a fruit that isn’t included in the other fruit categories listed above. If you pie contains both berries and stone fruit, feel free to submit it in this category.

Best Cream Pie
A cream pie is when the filling, such as pudding or cooked custard is cooked BEFORE being added to an already cooked crust. A cream pie may also contain uncooked ingredients (such as fruit) in a whipped cream filling. Classic cream pies include chocolate, coconut, vanilla and others. Meringue is added to the top of a cream pie and only cooked in the oven for a few minutes.

Best Custard Pie
A custard pie is when a filling generally containing raw eggs and other liquids is then added to an unbaked pie shell and cooked in the oven until the custard sets. A custard pie may or may not contain milk, cream or condensed milk. Classic pumpkin pie and pecan pie are considered custard pies.

Best Mash-Up Pie
Your own weird combo. You rock it, the judges eat it. Chocolate cream with pumpkin? Dried date and pecan custard? Who knows? This one is a free for all. Just make sure it tastes good!

Best Nut Pie
Go nuts! We’ll let you decide since there will be some cross-over between categories. For example, Pecan Pie is generally both a custard and a nut pie. Some other nut pies might include black walnut cream, Greek honey and almond pie, Macadamia nut and chocolate and caramel…you get the idea…

Best C.P.R. Pie
(Pie filling consists of three ingredients. One ingredient must begin with the letter C, one ingredient must begin with the letter P, and the other ingredient must begin with the letter R. This category is sponsored and judged by the Portland Chapter of the American Red Cross)
